Faith's Hammie Girl
I grew up with many different animals from a Irish Setter as a baby to turtles, rabbits, gerbils, parakeets, many dogs, hamsters
a guinea pig and assorted wild animals we saw around the yard and in the woods next to our house, like frogs, snakes, an owl
etc.
As an adult I didn't have many pets because it was difficult to find a place to rent that would allow pets. I really missed
not having animals. A few years ago my cousin decided to give me a hamster; who I named Cinnamon (Cinny), she was the greatest.
She was a little nervous being handled at first. My cousin said she didn't like to be handled at all but she was working with
her just prior to giving her to me, and she started to make progress with her. Cinnamon and I really got along wonderfully
very quickly. She loved being handled after I worked with her for about a month or two. Unfortunately, I got Cinny when she
was a year old, so I didn't have a lot of time with her. She did however get to live the life of a Hamster Princess for that
year or so! We had so much fun, she would come to you if you called her name. We'd put her in her exercise ball and she'd
be running on the floor bouncing into the walls and other things, we'd say, "Cinny", she'd coming running to us, then we'd
change directions, walk away, call her again, she'd come trucking along. Not only cute, but smart too!

Beatrix
I found out that there was a hamster rescue in NYC, called the NYHH. I decided I wanted to go help another hamster. There
was a hamster at the NYHH called Fiona, that is my landlords name. I thought it would be really great to get her...she was
adorable. Fiona had been adopted so I decided to get Beatrix, she is a little cutie. She jumped right out of my hands when
I tried to pick her up, I should have known that meant something LOL. She has been more nervous then Katie ever was. I am
not sure what that is about. But again, she has a good hamster life here with me, she has whatever she wants or needs and
more! Unfortunately she got hurt in March of 2007...I came home one night and there was blood all over her nose and her cage
and her water bottle was knocked onto the bottom of her cage. I brought her to the Emergency Animal Hospital at 11pm. We got
out at 2am. I got her pain meds, and the doctor wanted to see her the next day...She had bit the roof of her mouth. We went
through a week and a half of nervousness Beatrix and I, where she was feeling awful. I was treating her to baby food, healthy
baby food, feeding her meds, which she took with no problems. I think she knew that I was trying to take care of her the best
I could and that she felt better when she took the meds. Now we are closer than we have ever been. I can handle her more.
I have more trust from her...I think that although it was really difficult for both of us that she got hurt, that in the end,
it bonded us together. She now knows I will do whatever I can for her to make sure she is happy and healthy and that I am
not going to abandon her like she was abandoned before I got her at the NYHH. I look forward to spending more time with her
in the future and hope we get even closer.
