Boone's Pet Gang

Hi! I'm Boone. I live in North Carolina with a zoo crew of creatures. I work developing anti-cancer drugs and at night I'm working on becoming a certified dog trainer. I rescued my first two rats from a research lab years ago. I raised them from 21 days old and they were great pets. They really got me hooked on having ratties as pets. Since then my animal family has grown extensively.

Atari

I adopted three crazy rat girls who were older and two of them passed away. I worried about the third being by herself and wanted to get her some friends. Unfortunately the rodent rescue at the time only had male rats. When I met Huck and Atari, though, I was in love. They are such sweet little boys who love to give rattie kisses. They were a great decision for me. Huck even "helped" me fill out my paperwork as I signed the papers for them.

Cassie

My sweet intelligent dog. I waited 26yrs to get a dog...asked for one for years but never got one. Cassie was well worth the wait. She is the best dog for me-a purebred mutt, intelligent, independent and kind to all. We've worked through several issues together and she has become such a star!

Curie

After Cassie I thought I wanted a second dog and went to my local SPCA to find one. I didn't ever adopt a dog, but I did find Curie an (at the time) 18inch ball python. Having always wanted a snake I was thrilled to be able to adopt one. Curie is a cool snake and she has grown so much! She is now over 3 feet long!

The 4 kitties...

Foppa and Essence were the first two cats I adopted when I lived on my own. I had only intended to get one cat but Essence was a sweet heart and Foppa a beauty and I couldn't decide between the two. I'm very glad now that I adopted them both. They are great cats! Adopting them also got me acquainted with the shelter that I now spend many hours volunteering at.

Twain

Twain was a stray who was hanging around where I worked for several weeks. I'd placed ads and put up posters to try to find his owners because he is such a sweet boy. No one called. One day he showed up and someone had done something very mean to him. I took him home that night and he's been with me since. For the first little while we called him Smelly Cat but he has cleaned up well and become a beautiful, loving cat.

Abby Noel

Abby Noel made me believe in the power of fostering an animal. She was so terrified at the shelter. Her age (15), health status (kidney problems, heart issues and FIV) and temperament (terrified) made many people overlook her. The shelter asked me if I was willing to foster her for a few weeks as all my cats are FIV+. I agreed and within 48hours of bringing her home, she had done a 180 in her temperament. Not as outgoing as my other kitties, she still is shy, especially around new people but she worked her way into my heart and became my much loved foster failure
